Violent Crimes
Violent Crimes in New York State have some of the most severe punishments in the penal law. An experienced New York violent crime defense lawyer knows many of these offenses not only require a mandatory term of imprisonment but a term of post-release supervision or parole. Some offenses, such as illegal gun possession, have a mandatory minimum of three and one-half years in state prison for a first-time offender. REMEMBER – all violent felony sentences are enhanced.
